Breast pumps can be expensive! When I first started looking around I was surprised at how much some of them cost. This started my research online and in different Mom groups. It was through some of the Mom groups that I found out I could get my breast pump covered through insurance completely or at least partially.
Who I got my breast pump through
I looked up three different breast pump covering companies and ultimately decided on going through Aeroflow breast pumps. The main reason I did this was they had the Elvie breast pump which I knew I wanted. It was such an easy process. I put in my insurance info, they showed me which breast pumps were completely covered & they showed me which breast pumps were an upgrade. Once I decided which breast pump I wanted they contacted my midwife, she wrote a prescription, and soon after I received a confirmation email letting me know that my breast pump was being shipped out.
Once my pump shipped out I got it within a few days. The process was so simple and easy. I did get an upgraded pump so I paid $290 but considering it retails for $499 I think it’s worth it.
Why I chose the Elvie pump
Here’s my plan, breastfeed & bottle feed throughout the day. Again it’s my plan, I don’t know if I will produce or if the baby will take bottles. However, with that in mind, I wanted a pump that allowed me to be pretty mobile. Thinking ahead I won’t be staying home. I’ll be back at work in August which means I’ll have to pump, and baby will have to be bottle-fed throughout the day. I liked the idea of not being attached to a wall and being able to pump discreetly. Lots of research was done by me on different pumps that allowed me to move around and the Elvie came out on top. As far as having fewer parts to clean up, being quieter, and more discreet. I will be home for babies first 5 months of life. I’m hoping he will take both bottle and breast.
There were different pumps I could have gotten completely covered through insurance. However, I know the Elvie would work best for my lifestyle. I’m hoping that it gives me the ability to pump during my breaks at work while still allowing me to get things done.
We’ll see how I like the elvie and I will update with a review once I’ve tried it out. I am hoping to be able to breastfeed, but understand that I may not be able to.
Bump date
We are currently 35 weeks & 3 days. Baby is starting to run out of room and I often feel his feet near my ribs. His nursery is coming together. It’s been painted, the crib & dresser have been assembled, & the closet is mostly organized. We took our maternity pictures already and I can’t wait to see them.
