The weekend of October 17th we had our parents and siblings come over for a small gender reveal My husband and I decided together that we wanted to find out together from our midwife & that we would surprise our parents and step kids.
Decor
We kept the decor for our gender reveal pretty simple. I ordered balloons from Amazon and bought “curtains” from Party City. I decided I would tackle on making an arch and for my first time ever trying I will say it turned out pretty decent! We used the curtains as the background and cut them so we could split the blue and pink. The sonogram, onesie from our announcement, a giraffe with baby’s heartbeat, and a little keepsake box were also used as decor. We hired a local cookie baker and made a few cookies to give out and for people to have as their something sweet, which added that extra special touch!
Food & Drinks
For food, we kept it pretty simple. We did not want to cook so we went with catering from Olive Garden. It was such a simple process and they even deliver and set it up for you! You have to place the order 24 hours before no earlier, and you can add on serving plates as well as chafing dishes free of charge!
We ordered three of the chicken parmigiana and two salads. It was more than enough food and we had plenty of leftovers. Drinks were standard drinks plus wine for everyone. It would not be a party hosted by me if wine was not on the menu! My cousin and her husband made the cutest little cups for me so we used those for people to serve their wine in.
Gender Reveal!
Like I said earlier my husband and I decided we would find out in private with our midwife before telling everyone else. Our little one had hid from us the previous time we tried to see, but this time he was a little more cooperative. We found out on a Thursday and had our little gathering on Saturday. We decided that since we already knew we would have our parents pop the poppers so they could find out. They were shocked! My parents & his dad thought we would be having a girl, but apparently, my husband’s family likes making boys!
In the end, it did not matter what Baby B was a boy or girl we will love it just as much. We decided to have a Gender Reveal because we have all missed out on so much as a family. We see both sets of parents at least once or twice a month, but it had been a long time since they saw each other. I know it’s not the ideal time to have a gathering, but considering they are part of our “circle” we decided to go for it. We all had a great time together just catching up and mingling. Baby B is already so loved by everyone and has a stash of diapers, clothes, toys, etc growing!
What’s next?!
We will begin working on the nursery next, as well as our mini Baby-moon somewhere nearby! From my husband having cancer 6 years ago to a partial molar pregnancy, we did not think it was possible but our little miracle baby is finally on his way and we could not be more excited!
